      Yes, it is possible to phone friends from space and also use facebook and twitter!

      Astronauts use a basic internet connection in their free time 😀

      Astronauts in space can phone us on any normal phone (IP phone, like calling someone from skype) but we can’t call them with a number. We can email or contact astronauts on space to ground channels in mission control and ask them to call us. Tim calls often on the phone and all crew also have a private videoconference with their family every Sunday.
