      Hi Legend Ray,

      Yes! Astronauts are highly trained people and spend many years learning before they even fly into space.

      Tim Peake was selected in 2009 and only flew for the first time in 2015 after 6 years of training. Astronauts are expected to speak several languages, know about all the complicated equipment on the space station and be able to keep calm in stressful situations.

      Being an astronaut is hard work but they train a lot and get very good at what they do – so they can enjoy it too. At the weekend astronauts get some free time so it’s not all hard work and no play 😜
