      It means ‘ground’ from the words eor(th)e/ertha’ and ‘erde’ in old English and German.

      Dirt/land/ground.

      The word is similar in most languages (at least the ones that I speak) and the word for Earth is the same as the word for dirt/soil/land/ground which is funny because our planet is mostly water!
