      Hi 754tch52,

The oldest person to go into space was 77 years old.

He was an American astronaut called John Glen who flew on October 29, 1998.

He was also a politician and had flown into space before!

John Glenn Jr – an American NASA astronaut. He was a Mercury astronaut first – third American in space and first to orbit the Earth fully. On the other hand he didn’t think women should ever be allowed in space because it was against ‘social order’ and he didn’t like space tourists either who paid for their flights instead of being selected by an agency. He went back on a short joyflight with a shuttle (9 days) when he was 77.
