• Question: how big is the international space station?

      Hi Liz,

      The International Space Station (ISS) is pretty big considering everything there was launched into space on a rocket and then put together.

      There are normally 6 astronauts living and working there for periods of 6 months and it must be big enough to hold everyone, all their supplies and experimental equipment.

      The ISS has a gym, 2 bathrooms and as much space inside for living as a Jumbo Jet! The actual size is much bigger because of the huge solar panels to give the whole station enough energy. Measured from tip to tip the ISS would cover a football field.
