• Question: Is all the food in space dehydrated?

      Nope- some of it is on tins and can be eaten without adding water, like the chocolate cake.

      The Russian food tends to come in tins as they have a special ‘space cooker’ that the tins fit into. European and American food can also come in pouches that need water added.

      Also, sometimes as a rare treat astronauts get fresh fruit such as an apple if a delivery rocket is heading up. The Russians send onions, garlic and tomatoes with each Progress shipment to the International Space Station (ISS)!
